Virus & malware removal in Devonport
Pop-ups that won't go away, a browser that takes you to odd sites, or a call from someone who said they were from Microsoft? Bring the computer in. We clean it up properly and show you how to keep it that way.
Signs something's wrong
- Pop-ups, new toolbars or a different search engine you didn't choose
- Warnings telling you to call a number to "fix" your computer
- The computer suddenly runs much slower, or the fan runs flat out when it's idle
- Friends getting odd emails or messages from you
- Files that won't open, or a message demanding payment to unlock them
Let a scammer onto your computer?
It happens to careful people every week. If someone has had remote access to your computer, switch it off or unplug it from the internet, call your bank if you gave out any card or banking details, and bring the computer in. We remove the remote-access software, check for anything else left behind, and help you change the passwords that matter.
Our guide How to spot a scam call explains the common tricks.
What a clean-up includes
- Removing viruses, adware, unwanted browser extensions and remote-access tools
- Checking start-up programs and browser settings
- Bringing Windows or macOS and your security software up to date
- Plain advice on passwords, updates and backups, so this is a one-off
Common questions
Can I keep using the computer in the meantime?
If you suspect a scammer has had access, it's best not to. Disconnect it from the internet and bring it in as soon as you can.
Do you clean up Macs too?
Yes. Macs get adware and unwanted extensions too, and we clean those up the same way.
Will my files be safe?
A clean-up doesn't remove your documents or photos. If there's any risk to them, we'll talk to you first.
